Meet Virginia from The Creative Corner in Wurtsboro, New York.
Hello! My name is Virginia "Ginny" Behrens. I live about 100 miles from  New York City in Sullivan County where the once famous Grossinger and Concord hotels are or were located.

Born with a talent to draw you might say I got if from my father but my mother had the talent too. It was many years later that I decided to study graphic art design at the local community college. I then went on to working for newspapers designing ads and freelanced designing logos and more. I now work in the office of our local hospital and am looking forward to retiring, hopefully this July and having more time to design.

When designing a card I feel if I am going to do all that work it's got to be large. I love to create my own backgrounds on the computer making Plaids, stripes, multicolor squares and more.

Victorian Heart and Flowers
I love this stamp and the Swirly flowers too. They can be used many ways.
Stamps: Layered Heart I-696 with Swirly Flowers D-96 med, B-97 small, A-98 Tiny.
  • This is a 6 inch square card.
  • Backgrounds of stripped and diamond pattern were created on the computer.
  • Hearts were stamped in red pigment ink and clear embossed on candy pink and watermelon color card stock.
  • All designs in the hearts were bleached out. Watermellon hearts were then layered utilizing foam tape.
  • Flowers stamped in red pigment ink, clear embossed on white card stock and shaded in pinks and light yellow with metallic cream chalks,
  • centers are sparkle glue and mounted with foam tape.
  • Side bar with Victorian swirl design was a strip of ribbon laid over piece of watermelon card stock.
  • Embellishment was rose and clear color crystals and or sparkle glue.

Vase of Hearts - H-916  -  Card Size: 5½ x 8½
  • Card stock: crimson red, ivory for base of card, and white for copic markers.
  • Background stripe was designed on my computer. Choose a pattern that is light in colors even a plain gray would work great.
  • Background layers are scanned commercial paper (I scan to conserve) and pearlized pink card stock.
  • VersaCraft Multipurpose water-based pigment ink VK-182 Real Black.
  • Clear Emboss powder.
  • Copic Markers - pinks: RV02; RV13; yellows: Y13; Y17; greens: YG03; YG17; and BG10 Cool Shadow for vase.
  • Die-cuts: Spellbinders Long Classic Rectangles Large and Curved Rectangles
  • Ribbon, pink narrow or of your choice
  • Red crystals, Christmas red Stickles glue

  • Stamp heart image 3 times in black pigment ink on the white card stock, emboss in clear. Utilizing large rectangle die cut, center one heart
  • image and cut. Layer on red card stock cutting about 1/8" inch border.
  • Using same rectangle die cut another piece out of the commercial paper.
  • Utilizing the 2nd to largest Curved Rectangle die cut the pink pearlized paper. Lightly go around edges with red ink to bring out depth.
  • Color vase and all hearts with the Copic markers. Cut hearts and layer with foam tape. Embellish with red crystals.
  • Hearts on side are not mounted with foam tape, but that can be your choice. Centers are embellished with red Stickles glue.
  • Add your bow and your are finished.
Oops! Did I leave anything out? Just take another look at the picture.

My Heart Is Falling For You
  • Stamp:  Layered Heart I-696 - Card Size: 6"x6"
  • Card stock: Bazzill Romance Pink,  standard black, 12" square ivory for base of card cut and fold to 6x6".
  • Background - K&Co "Smitten Pretties" flat paper - scanned and resized pattern on computer - printed on white card stock.
  • VersaCraft Multipurpose water-based pigment ink VK-182 Real Black.
  • Clear Emboss powder.
  • Corner punch wrought iron pattern.
  • Sakura Metallic Gel Pens - the pens are not labeled with color name.
  • Crystal glitter glue.

  • Cut a 6x6" piece of pink card stock and mount on ivory base.
  • Cut a 6x6" piece of black, punch corners and trim 1/8" off each side, mount on pink.
  • Cut K&Co "Smitten Pretties" paper to fit under corners.
  • Stamp in black Layered Heart 4 times on smooth side of Bazzill pink card stock, emboss in clear.
  • Color in hearts and cut for layering. Use crystal glitter glue on full heart only. I filled in the outside frame and insides only of smaller hearts.
  • You should be able to see some sparkle.
  • Flat mount full heart and then with foam tape mount remaining 3 hearts.

I chose the Sakura gel pens but you could also use Twinkling H2o's. I just did not have the colors. You could also embellish all hearts with glitter glue I just did not want to over do it and spoil the card with too much glitz.

Meet Sonia from The Creative Corner in Wurtsboro, New York.

Hi! Welcome to Anna’s Creative Corner. My name is Sonia Larson but I’m much better known as Soni (pronounced, sunny). I’ve have been crafting since my mother handed me my first embroidery needle and crochet hook. Moving away from the small town of Liberty to attend college and then teach in Buffalo, I found a world of crafting opportunities and poured my creative juices into ceramics, flower arranging, macramé, crewel, string art and decoupage. In 1975 I moved back home to marry Al, also a teacher and administrator. With the addition of 2 active boys, more teaching and care of parents those creative passions were put to rest. When my husband decided to retire, I told him he couldn’t throw in the towel until he had something else to do. It didn’t take him long! Didn’t he turn the tables on me when I decide to retire? Since I was an avid photographer, I promised him that I would turn all our family photos into scrapbook albums. Then I went to a stamping party. Oh, this looked neat! Maybe I’ll just make 20 handmade Christmas cards. While I was working diligently on my project I heard about this new craft store in Wurtsboro. The rest is history! You can find me just about any Thursday at the Creative Corner learning new techniques or “just playing”! I love to vary my color choices and use all kinds of mediums, but you’ll see by the samples in Anna’s store that I’m addicted to embroidered cards. … Isn’t that where it all began?
